Capturing birthday memories
As a photographer, some sessions stand out not just for the images captured, but for the relationships we build during our time together! This March, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with a family I first met during the first few weeks of their beautiful newborn’s arrival in 2023. This time, the family chose to commemorate a double celebration: the mother’s birthday and their little one’s first birthday at a place close to their hearts: Lancing Beach in West Sussex.
We lucked out with no rain (it’s been soo rainy, hasn’t it?), but as expected, there was a bit of a breeze on the coast but that doesn’t let us sea lovers stop! The family’s positivity shone through (Mummy K is the most sunshiney person!), and we captured some lovely moments by the sea before then deciding to venture inland to a nearby gardens. The move from the seafront to the calmness of the gardens provided a perfect backdrop for more tranquil shots, and gave them a lovely variety to their gallery options. It also allowed some well-deserved snacks, of course! I brought along a little yellow crown that I thought would be nice as a nod to J’s first birthday – he looks so cute in it! A little Prince!
Returning to Lancing Beach with this family was more than just a photo session; it was a chance to reconnect AND capture their journey. I also felt a huge sense of gratitude for being part of their story once again; being asked to return to a family means the world, truly. It is also just such a lovely session as the family really do know me, and are so relaxed for what’s going to happen! (Me chatting or running and hiding behind things!).
